The 2011 APL awards winning project, designed by Amanda Patton, required every surface to be altered within the external area of the property. Every plant in the garden was replaced with the exception of a single willow tree, and a pair of Box in the front garden.

The site was divided into five distinct areas. The front garden with salvaged stone paths, and raised rose beds. A central area where walls were constructed in reclaimed and local Sherborne stone, capped with sawn York stone, with terraces and paths constructed in sawn York stone, and formal lawn. A kitchen garden with raised beds and a glasshouse. A drive was formed with reinforced grass, and a sandstone parking area. The centrepiece of the final area was a formal natural swimming pond with an adjacent yellow Balau deck and second circular deck, surrounded by prairie style planting. The area was enclosed with willow hurdles, hornbeam hedging and cordon fruit trees.

This is the third time we have entered the APL Awards and the third time we have won our category outright, and is due to the hard work, pride and attention to detail our staff put in to their work. We are the only landscapers in the south-west to have achieved three outright wins, it’s fantastic!

Chair of the judging panel and APL, Mark Gregory said: "We had a very tough decision on our hands. Often there will be one or two entries that really stand out but this year there were more than a handful that were outstanding. Many congratulations to Original Landscapes Ltd on their success."

The scheme was a garden around a new swimming pool and consisted of York stone paving, a freestanding brick wall incorporating a flint backed niche and water feature, timber pavilions and green oak pergolas, as wells as lawns and planting.

Chair of the judging panel and APL vice-chairman, Mark Gregory said, "We received a record number of entries this year and the standard was exceptionally high. Landscaping really does benefit from attention to detail and Original Landscapes project showed this. Many congratulations to them on their success."

National Amateur Gardening show 2008. Gold medal for a contemporary garden designed by Amanda Patton. The sleek garden design consisted of white render walls, Iroko screens and seating, a still reflective pool and prairie style planting. Creating an overall effect much praised by the competition judges.

Designed by the internationally renowned George Carter the garden was constructed out of local Portland and Purbeck stone and features a unique pair of reflecting pools. Original Landscapes utilised their own team of highly skilled local craftsmen to implement the construction of this technically demanding garden. Complimenting the water feature surrounding landscaping includes stylised planting and lawns.

Paying tribute to Original Landscapes major achievement, Neville Stein of The Association of Professional Landscapers said, “This garden was selected as an award winner because of the quality of workmanship. Not only was it constructed to a very high standard but the overall scheme caught the judges’ eye as it complimented the style of the property.”

Finally, I wanted to pass on to you some comments made to me by Bamber Wallis. He said that he has worked with very many landscape contractors but he said you were the best and most professional he has come across. He said that he thought you were doing a first class job and that we were very fortunate!! D’accord!
